Overview of Testing & Evaluations...

Picture
The Pat and Don Williamson Evaluation Center at The Learning Center of North Texas provides comprehensive diagnostic educational evaluations for children ages 4-18, college students, and adults.

An evaluation yields a profile of learning strengths and weaknesses and gives insight into an individual’s approach to learning, problem solving, and working. This valuable self knowledge can make the difference between success and failure, whether in school or on the job.

All evaluation instruments are widely used and parallel the instruments used in the public schools. The findings are interpreted according to the most current standards of the reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act in 2004 and Texas State Board of Education Rules for Special Education Services. Reading difficulties are interpreted in light of The Dyslexia Handbook published by the Texas Education Agency. In addition, a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) diagnosis is available when appropriate.

Full  Assessment
TLCNT’s evaluation is distinguished by its in-depth examination of the whole individual. The process involves gathering information from significant people in the individual’s life: parents, a spouse, and/or teacher(s). Our professional diagnostician selects the range of inventories to be used based on individual needs. We offer a variety of assessments in the following categories:

o  Cognitive (Thinking)
o  Achievement (Performance)
o  Personality styles/preferences
o  Screens for attention and learning difficulties

Other assessments are given on an as-needed basis to further diagnose specific areas such as reading, listening, language, executive functions, and visual-motor abilities. Our licensed psychologist can provide additional insights through a separate consultation. TLCNT offers a vocational package consisting of interests, values, and aptitude assessments for young adults transitioning from school settings to work.
Written Evaluation
TLCNT’s comprehensive report includes a profile of cognitive abilities and academic strengths and weaknesses, and offers strategies to improve performance at school, college, or work.

Interpretation
After the evaluation is completed, diagnostician and clients meet to review the results of the assessment and follow-up plan of action.
